Hours: 37 per week
Contract: Permanent
Location: Stockport
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working face-to-face with people and wants to make a positive difference from the very first interaction.
As a Customer Service Officer based on reception, you will be the main point of contact for visitors arriving at Cornerstone. You’ll support people who may need help with housing-related issues such as homelessness, rent concerns, tenancy questions, or repairs, as well as those simply needing advice or direction to the right service.
You will play an important part in creating a welcoming, calm, and professional environment, particularly for customers who may be feeling anxious or distressed. Your approach, attitude, and communication style will help set the tone for their entire experience.
No two days will be the same. You’ll balance providing a friendly front-of-house service with managing enquiries, supporting colleagues, and keeping the reception area organised and efficient.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet all visitors in a warm, respectful, and supportive manner
- Act as the first point of contact for housing-related enquiries, appointments, and general support requests
- Listen carefully to understand individual needs and provide clear information, guidance, or referrals
- Manage footfall and ensure the reception area runs smoothly, even during busy periods
- Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure customers receive the right support
- Keep reception spaces clean, safe, and welcoming at all times
- Accurately record customer information using IT systems while maintaining confidentiality
- Remain calm, professional, and solution-focused in challenging situations

- Can stay positive and composed in fast-paced or emotionally demanding environments
- Communicate clearly and confidently, both in person and in writing
- Are comfortable using computer systems and keeping accurate records
- Follow procedures while also using initiative to resolve problems
- Are flexible, reliable, and open to improving how services are delivered
- Value diversity and support inclusive, accessible services
You don’t need to meet every single requirement to apply. If you have relevant experience, transferable skills, and a genuine desire to help people, your application is encouraged.
