System Engineering Intern

Reporting to the Leader, Infrastructure Engineering, theSystem Engineering Intern will work as part of Interac’s Infrastructure Engineering team to design, develop, and deliver technical solutions. As part of this team, the successful candidate can expect to collaborate with highly technical colleagues across a diverse set of technical and non-technical teams to solve problems within the payment space.This is an opportunity to develop knowledge and experience across multiple technology domains (including Enterprise Cloud, DevOps and Agile) and projects that will have an impact on every Canadian.
You’ll be responsible for:
- Supporting various teams within Infrastructure Operations to aid in designing, developing, and delivering services
- Participating in squads focusing on maturing Interac’s technologies, practices, and tools
- Contributing to the designing of solutions for a variety of digital transformation initiatives and managing existing infrastructure across Interac
- Helping to evaluate business goals, assessments, and supporting the design deployment
- Contributing to the team responsible for designing and managing technology platforms and services for Interac by bringing new solutions and supporting the conversions of existing systems
- Acting as a technical interface for a variety of projects and infrastructure initiatives by communicating and managing senior technology professionals
- Providing additional ad-hoc support with:
- Maintain technical documentation
- Supporting business requirements sessions
- Aiding in creating strategic plans and roadmaps
- Opportunities to help present key material to various levels within the organization
- Collaborating directly with Interac’s DevSecOps subject matter experts (SME)
You bring:
- Currently enrolled in a university or college program in a relevant discipline, like computer science or similar field
- Familiarity with modern technology concepts including system architecture and automation
- You are a proactive and analytical problem-solver with a demonstrated track record being able to identify issues as they arise and can triage accordingly
- Proactive critical thinker, with strong analytical and problem skills – you enjoy continuously improving redundant or inefficient processes
- Enjoy tackling challenging problems – you often utilize your creative thinking skills to come up with solutions
- Comfortable with learning and working effectively either independently or with groups across different functions and levels
- Confidence in your ability to communicate verbally and written in a detailed and impactful way
- A curious mindset that has you pulling the strings on problems in front of you to understand more than what you see in front of you
Workstyle: Hybrid (3 days on-site)
Location: Toronto
Term: September to December 2025
Duration: Monday – Friday
