    Job Summary:

    CSA Group has an opportunity for a Co-op Student – Standards Development, Power Generation (Nuclear) reporting to the Program Manager, Power Generation. In this role, you will assist Project Managers and interact with industry experts, academia, researchers, and government officials to support the development of leading-edge standards solutions.

    The Power Generation (Nuclear) standards team manages a portfolio of standards and guidelines that cover subject areas including reactor safety, reactor control systems and instrumentation, concrete containment structures, seismic design, emergency and environmental management, radioactive waste management, decommissioning, and more. Many of these standards are referenced in the operating licenses and compliance handbooks of Canadian nuclear facilities.

    The target start date for this role is May 2025, for a term of 12 or16 months. Please submit a cover letter with your application and indicate the work term duration for which you are available.

    Responsibility:

    As Co-op Student, the successful candidate will assist with standards development activities within the program. Responsibilities include:

    • Assist in preparation and maintenance of project documentation such as meeting notices, agendas, draft minutes, work schedules, comment tables, committee membership lists, draft standards, ballot records, etc.
    • Lead process improvement initiatives to support the program, such as optimizing data collection, analysis, and reporting systems.
    • Assist in scheduling and convening of in-person and/or virtual meetings.
    • Disseminate and maintain committee documentation and correspondence.
    • Follow up with members on action items and handle action items assigned to CSA staff (within scope of responsibility).
    • Assist as needed with other project and program activities related to strategic initiatives, and conduct related research as needed.

    Education and Experience:

    • Completion of second year or higher in an undergraduate program.
    • Preference for students in a related technical field such as nuclear energy or energy systems; engineering disciplines such as civil, mechanical, chemical, and electrical; business and/or management.
    • Knowledge of standards, government policy, and nuclear sector landscape would be an asset.
    • Experience working with volunteers and/or multi-party groups would be an asset.

    Skills:

    • Excellent people skills: managing relationships, facilitating and networking with people at all levels with divergent interests and backgrounds.
    • Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
    • Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills. Detail and process orientation.
    • High degree of self-motivation, initiative, resilience, and adaptability.
    • Demonstrated ability to be a team player.
    • Strong computer skills (word processing, presentation software, project planning software, spreadsheets, etc.).
    • Candidates with proficiency in French will be given special consideration.
